I look at this and just snicker to myself at a company shooting itself in the foot by putting it's customers through hot coals over misplaced CEO-class greed in a market that marketing has no clue about. *Note: Clarification, this isn't aimed at any specific customer service rep, this is all about Autodesk. Unfortunately, whatever that reason was, it's really put me as a user in a bind. #AUTODESK MAYA LT 2021 REVIEW FULL#I'm sure there was a valid business reason for not allowing Maya to read LT files (I assume it was to prevent users from subscribing to the cheaper option and switching at the end of a project to the full version?). In order to work with any of those files I'd have to sign up for an additional subscription to LT alongside my subscription to Maya Indie, which feels absurd. Half of the files I've created are in one format, and half in another. I never know when I might need to go back to an LT file I authored a year ago and find myself without a way of accessing it. I'm very pleased with Maya Indie, but it means I can't access any of the files I created in the past couple of years with LT. I used LT for a few years for work, but have now signed up for Maya Indie, which is actually CHEAPER than LT and full-featured to boot. #AUTODESK MAYA LT 2021 REVIEW LICENSE#There’s also updates to deformers and improvements to animation performers.I know this is an old thread, but it's the first Google result so I figured I'd chime in here: this is quite a messy and frustrating situation from a user perspective.Īs an independent game artist I pay for my own license and couldn't justify the cost of full Maya, even though it had several features I would have used (file referencing, scale constraints, attribute spreadsheet, etc). With Maya 2023 there’s a full switch to Python and Python 2 mode has been removed entirely. A range of new boolean operations are also available, such as Slice, Hole Punch, Cut Out and Split Edges in addition to the existing Difference and Union operations. The Boolean modeling tools get updated with a Boolean node which makes it possible for users to create and edit booleans in fewer clicks. There’s also the option to use single or multiple creator nodes per curve in the Sweep Mesh tool which creates 3D geometry by sweeping a profile curve along a guide curve. Improvements to the modeling workflow includes new marking menus for extrusion and bevel operations. The toolset is aimed at pre-production animation blocking. It replaces the existing Grease Pencil tool and provides more drawing tools for text and shapes as well as a layer system for annotations. Another new feature is the Blue Pencil toolset for making 2D annotations in the viewport.

The GIMP has a ton of great features, is constantly improving, and is never going to cost you money. Trolling online takes no effort whatsoever! Given it is open source, why not engage them, or why not try to implement improvements? Oh, that would take effort. However to lack the perspective to understand this basic principle - that you prefer what you know - and lay into the work of the GIMP developers with very unconstructive criticisms is hardly helping anybody. You have to unlearn what you know and relearn something else, and for many that is too much to ask. It's like going from a Mac to Windows and vice versa. They are difficult applications with different structures and different approaches to many tasks. If you are used to Photoshop, you'll find GIMP horrible to use. That said, it is probably the best anthology series of the 1970s but honestly I consider it inferior to many that came before it in the 50s and 60s (Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, One Step Beyond, Thriller). However, some others are clearly tongue-in-cheek social commentaries, attempts to have some fun and brighten people’s day. Some of these projects are as shameless as they can be. It’s an online community that names and shames the most egregious and greedy GoFundMe campaigns. That’s where the aptly named ‘Don’tFundMe’ subreddit comes in. The federal government’s disaster recovery payment of $1,000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child will also be available from Monday. For example, tons of people create GoFundMe projects to try and weasel out some money from naive altruists. The assistance – of $180 for individuals and $900 for families – is provided through the joint commonwealth-state disaster recovery funding arrangements. Morrison on Sunday said personal hardship assistance was being made available to flood-affected and evacuated communities in the Gympie and North Burnett areas. Labor accused the government of continuing to sit on the emergency response fund which had “done nothing to help” prepare the country for natural disasters. In the 2021 budget the government announced a similar fund called the Prepare Australia fund, which committed $600m over six years for disaster resilience measures. Labor has pledged to revamp the fund to direct $200m a year to disaster prevention and resilience, such as flood levees, sea walls, cyclone shelters, evacuation centres, fire breaks and telecommunications improvements. The fund was set up by the Coaltion in 2019, with the money to be spent on recovery and mitigation – but none of the fund has been allocated, with the government referring to it as a fund of last resort. The criticism comes amid an ongoing row between Labor and the government about the government’s disaster readiness – and particularly the $4.7bn emergency response fund. “Your donation will provide immediate assistance in the aftermath of the flood to those most in need,” the page states, including food and essential supply packages for families who need it, essential clean up supplies to assist community volunteers, equipment to help businesses get back up and running and “any other assistance we can provide the community”.īut on Dutton’s own Facebook page people questioned why the federal government was not providing the direct financial assistance itself. The minister said any amount donated to the cause would go towards residents and business owners in Pine Rivers whose lives and livelihoods were affected by the February 2022 floods. Every dollar donated will go directly to helping them.” “We have started a fundraiser to help local residents and businesses who have been affected. #Setting up gofundme full#“The water hasn’t gone down yet, and we haven’t seen the full extent of the damage to our community due to catastrophic flooding,” Dutton said. In the fundraiser set up by Dutton, which had raised about $2,000 of its $25,000 goal on Sunday evening, the minister calls for support to provide “immediate financial assistance” to people in need. Isn’t this the role of government? Y’know, the one you’re a part of- Tim (non-spooky, non-Halloween version) February 27, 2022 #Diptrace external pins software#Thankfully, a good piece of design software with built-in rules checks can prevent this mistake. If you do make these swaps in your layout, redesigns will be required on other of the circuit board. For example, ground and I/O pins, power and I/O pins, or power and ground pins should not be swapped with each other. Current devices can have over 1500 pins, and performing a pin swap manually can be time-consuming and is prone to mistakes.Ĭertain FPGA pins cannot be swapped without also swapping other components on the circuit board. The pins have to be connected to the proper net that will connect it to other components on the PCB. On the FPGA side, the pins are assigned to the hardware description language signals that form the logic implemented in the FPGA. The challenge to integrating an FPGA on your PCB successfully is in routing your power, ground, configuration, clock, and user I/O signals properly.Ĭonnecting the right traces to an FPGA on a PCB can be a difficult task. Rather than designing a system with hundreds or even thousands of logic ICs, FPGAs provide the same design freedom in a single IC. Using FPGA technology allows designers to implement nearly any logic-based functionality in their device. The trend towards system-on-a-chip devices has increased the use of FPGAs. But in devices that have components with high pin density, like FPGAs or microcontrollers, routing your signals can quickly become a complicated mess of crisscrossing connections in your PCB layout. Pin swapping may not be so important in simpler designs with a low number of components. If you find that your design is a rat’s nest, it can be cleaned up by doing a pin swap in your PCB. Moving between schematic and layout leaves room for ambiguity, and it is up to the to route traces such that crossover is minimized. No matter how much planning goes into your PCB designs, you may find yourself in the position of your pin swap during trace routing. If you are routing traces between an FPGA and external logic ICs on your PCB, your design might look like my mess of cords on moving day. If I had taken more time to pack them properly, they probably would not have become tangled. When I reached into the box to pull out my audio cords, power cords, and extension cords, everything was a tangled, helpless mess. I recently moved into a new apartment, and it was time to unpack all of my electronics. “Hard to Be a God” (1964) and “The Inhabited Island” (1969) were rereleased by Chicago Review Press a few years ago. #Biggest space opera seriesAnd while I’m talking about space opera in translation, brothers Boris and Arkady Strugatsky in Russia created one of the great settings of 20th-century science fiction with their Noon universe, in a series of novels now gaining new appreciation and new translated editions. The trilogy is hugely ambitious and cosmic in scope. The big blockbuster of translated science fiction has to be Liu Cixin’s “The Three-Body Problem” (2008). I was also taken with Carina Rozenfeld’s “Terres” (2021), which is not a neat fit but fascinating for its exploration of an entire multiverse. #Biggest space opera fullJoining them are a host of new writers, such as Floriane Soulas, whose “The Forgotten of the Amas” (2021) is a grandly ambitious novel set around a Jupiter that is presented in the true scale of a full space opera. There’s Pierre Bordage, whose “Warriors of Silence” trilogy dates back to the 1990s, and Jean-Claude Dunyach, whose “Dead Stars” (1991) is an important early title. Lavie: I recently came back from France, where I was really taken with the vibrancy of French space opera. It borrows the structure of “The Canterbury Tales” and blasts it into space in one massive undertaking. An older title that falls into the brick-of-a-book category is “Hyperion” (1989) by Dan Simmons. It’s heavy on intrigue, politics and court machinations and utilizes the tried-and-true science fiction trope of transplanted memories. A new ambassador arrives at the city of Teixcalaan, intent on investigating the sudden death of their predecessor. It’s a coming-of-age tale rooted in African culture, which is continued in two other novellas.įor people looking for full-blown novels, there is Arkady Martine’s “A Memory Called Empire” (2019). Like “Dune,” “Binti” has a young protagonist traveling from one distant corner of the galaxy to another, while undergoing a great personal transformation. Therefore, I’m not going big, but small, and recommending “Binti” (2015), a novella by Nnedi Okorafor. Although the obvious recommendation is to plow through the many volumes of the Dune series itself, newbies are sometimes fearful of being thrown into the deep end of the pool (the six Dune books penned by Frank Herbert span some 900,000 words). Silvia: Because of the success of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” adaptation, many people have been asking me for books that resemble the movie. Let’s talk about some of our favorites in this action-packed genre. “Doc” Smith and Edmond “The World Wrecker” Hamilton were dreaming up sweeping space adventures. Frank Herbert’s “Dune” may seem like the most epic of these epics, but before him, writers such as E.E. Science fiction writers (and readers) seem to never get enough of big spaceships, big galactic empires or giant worms. Binti/Dune Photo: Tordotcom/Tor - handout, HandoutĪh, the space opera!
